What to Bring

Your Sleep Study: What you will need

Sleep disorders negatively impact health and are linked to more serious conditions such as obesity, hypertension, heart failure, depression and more. Your sleep study at an Ohio Sleep Solutions Center will help identify problems so treatment can begin.

Please bring:

  • Your insurance card
  • Comfortable two-piece sleeping clothes with undergarments
  • Sleep aid if prescribed (The staff at the lab will not be able to provide this to you)
  • Doses of other medications taken at bed time or upon waking up
  • A change of clothes for the next day
  • A list of medications with dosages, and the times at which you have taken them

Items you may also want to bring:

  • Shampoo and conditioner (Conditioner helps remove conducting cream used to adhere electrodes)

Things to do the day of your study:

  • Eat your normal diet
  • Take your medications as prescribed, unless otherwise instructed by your physician
  • Shower before you arrive to remove all body lotion and hair products (also please make sure your hair is dry)
  • Shave as late as possible if you do not have a beard
  • Remove nail polish from a finger on one hand; acrylic nails will not need to be removed

Please DO NOT:

  • Take any naps the day of the test
  • Consume caffeine after 2 p.m. (or six hours prior to your arranged arrival time)
  • Consume alcohol the day of the test
  • Take over-the-counter medications which may cause drowsiness unless directed to do so by your physician
